Summary

ALUCOBOND is a registered trademark of 3A Composites for aluminium composite panels (ACP): sandwich panels of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a core. Each aluminium skin is 0.5 mm. The core type decides fire behaviour: ALUCOBOND PLUS and FR have mineral cores classed EN 13501-1 B-s1, d0, while ALUCOBOND A2 is classed A2-s1, d0. Panels are coil coated with PVDF or FEVE paint and mounted on a subframe as a ventilated facade. SPS installs ACP facades for showrooms, offices, banks and commercial buildings.

Common questions

What is ACP?

ACP (aluminium composite panel) is a sandwich of two thin aluminium sheets bonded to a core. Because the light core keeps the two skins apart, the panel is stiff yet light, like the principle of an I-beam. The core type decides how the panel behaves in fire.

What is the difference between PE, FR and A2 cores?

A PE (polyethylene) core burns easily. An FR core is mineral-filled and more fire-retardant; ALUCOBOND PLUS and FR are classed EN 13501-1 B-s1, d0. ALUCOBOND A2 is classed A2-s1, d0. The class required for a building is set by local regulations and the project's fire engineer.

Why must ACP panels face the same direction?

For metallic, Spectra, naturAL and special-effect colours, 3A Composites recommends installing all panels in the direction marked on the protective film, to avoid reflection differences between panels.

How long is the ALUCOBOND warranty?

The ALUCOBOND Asia brochure says warranties according to the product specification and approved application are available on request. The term is set per project, so ask when ordering.
