Common questions
What is 6063 aluminium?
6063 is an aluminium, magnesium and silicon alloy, the most common one for architectural profiles. It forms easily into thin hollow profiles, resists atmospheric corrosion and anodises well. Its strength comes from ageing heat treatment, for example the T5 or T6 temper.
What is the difference between anodising and powder coating?
Anodising thickens aluminium's natural oxide layer electrochemically, so the layer is part of the metal. Powder coating is a powder paint that is sprayed and then baked. For exterior use the coating thickness should suit the environment, so ask for the specification when ordering.
What do Groups I to XVIII in the INKALUM catalogue mean?
Groups in the INKALUM catalogue organise product families, for example Group IV for hollows and Group X for curtain walls. A group is not a strength or quality grade.
Can aluminium touch steel directly?
Better not. Aluminium in direct contact with carbon steel or copper in damp conditions can suffer galvanic corrosion. Separate them with gaskets, nylon washers or a protective coating, and avoid trapped water.
