Common questions

What is Panasap glass?

Panasap is Asahimas's tinted float glass. Metals such as cobalt, manganese and selenium are added to the glass batch, so the colour runs through the whole glass, not from a film. Panasap works by absorbing part of the sun's heat. For example, according to Asahimas's official data, Panasap Euro Grey 6 mm transmits 46 percent of solar energy, reflects 5 percent and absorbs 49 percent, with a solar factor of 58 percent.

What is the difference between tinted, reflective and low-e glass?

Tinted glass such as Panasap reduces heat by absorbing it. Reflective glass such as Stopsol reflects part of the sunlight with a thin surface coating. Low-e glass such as Sunergy, Planibel G, Sunfort and Stopray has a low-emissivity coating that reduces heat transfer, giving a lower U-value.

Why can tinted glass crack from heat?

Glass that absorbs heat warms up. The sunlit centre expands while the edge inside the frame stays cooler, creating thermal stress. According to Asahimas's brochure, each 1 °C of difference creates about 0.62 MPa. That is why glass edges must be ground, glass must not touch the frame directly, and air conditioning must not blow straight at the glass.

How can I tell genuine Asahimas glass?

According to Asahimas, Indoflot, Panasap, Mirox MNGE, Decomirror and Indofigur carry a logo marking on every sheet. To be sure, buy through official Asahimas dealers.
